PURPOSE OF THE CMR AWARD

This award recognizes a standout quality or performance improvement initiative that demonstrates measurable impact on case management practice or client outcomes.

CMSA Foundation’s Case Management Practice Improvement Award and Case Management Research Award recognize an individual, group, or organization that uses finding from a research or quality/performance improvement (QI/PI) initiative for innovation in the advancement of case management practice and/or improved client outcomes.

These awards have been established to:

  1. Honor successful efforts to promote evidence-based case management practice;

  2. Acknowledge exceptional efforts to research best practice innovation that help quantify and define outcomes in case management;

  3. Encourage activities which aim to advance case management; and

  4. Recognize innovation to foster evidence-based practice components defined by the CMSA Standards of Practice for Case Management.

This award honors exceptional case management research or evidence-based practice projects conducted or initiated within the last three years.

Submissions are evaluated on:

  • Originality and soundness of research

  • Methodological rigor and data analysis

  • Contributions to case management practice, policy, or education

  • Dissemination of findings to the broader professional community

Case management individuals, groups, or organizations may submit more than one entry. However, only one award will be selected.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Any submission that conflicts with CMSA’s Mission and Vision or competes with any CMSA program or product WILL BE EXCLUDED from consideration.


SAMPLE APPLICATION:

  1. In 500 words or less, provide a brief background of the research/evidence-based practice work for which you are submitting the award application.

  2. What is the problem statement or question addressed in the research? How does it relate to case management practice? Why is it important?  Limit 150 words or less.

  3. Provide a brief description and definition of the framework applied in the research or evidence-based practice project. Limit 150 words or less.

  4. Was there any research instrument used?  Describe the instrument including its validity and reliability.

  5. Describe the procedure(s) applied for data collection including sampling procedures, sample size, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and so on.

  6. Describe the data analysis procedure(s). 

  7. Describe the findings from the data collection and analysis. If data analysis is in progress, please indicate estimate time of completion.

  8. Describe the implications of the evidence-based practice research for case management practice and related knowledge.     

  9. Describe the efforts of disseminating the evidence-based practice research findings to the larger case management community.     

  10. Was this research work presented to a Review Board / Committee? 

  11. Provide the dates covering the project.

Eligibility: All research stages—completed or in-progress—are eligible, provided they demonstrate scientific merit and relevance to case management.

Special Recognition: Winning project and recipient will be recognized at the CMSA Annual Conference in June. 

  • Recipient will receive up to a $1,500 cash award.

  • Recipient will submit an article about their project for CMSA Today magazine. 

  • Recipient will present details on their project in an all-member webinar following the annual conference. 

  • Recipient will have an opportunity to submit a blog for cmsa.org regarding their project.

  • Recipient will allow the CMSA Foundation to publish a project summary and outcomes overview for the Foundation’s newly formed library of best practices for research and process improvement accessible by CMSA members.
